Vorrei
"I Would Like...". Debut poetry collection — Lucio Freni's only book from a third-party publisher
These pages are also authentic philosophy. Love of knowledge. Love of love.
The book
Vorrei ("I would like...") is the poetry collection with which Lucio Freni made his debut, published by A & B in the Euterpe series (Acireale-Rome). It is the only one of his books to come from a third-party publisher; every later title is self-published. Because of that, it is also the only one of his works subject to Italy's legal-deposit requirement and catalogued in the national library system — see below.
The poems circle around desire — the wish named by the title, left open and unresolved — and the distance between what one would like and what happens. In the back-cover note, psychiatrist and essayist Alessandro Meluzzi describes the collection as "authentic philosophy", an expression of "love of knowledge" and "love of love". The book is published in Italian only; the passages above are English renderings of short factual material about the work.
Reviews
Thanks to this book, and above all to its author, I discovered that poetry is not just part of the standard school curriculum, but a living form of expression able to open new horizons for us. [...] I appreciated the great ability to render feelings in verse.
A title held by Italy's National Library
Unlike Lucio Freni's self-published titles, Vorrei is catalogued in OPAC SBN — Italy's unified national library catalogue — under record ID IT\ICCU\PAL\0223998. A copy is held by the National Central Library of Florence, the National Central Library of Rome, and the Regional University Library of Catania. The author, "Freni, Lucio", also has his own authority record in the same catalogue (IT\ICCU\PALV\059671).
